"Chuzo" (casting) is a method of metal working, which to put "yoto" (melted metal)in "igata" (casting mold) and cool it. Metal made with this method is called "imono".
This method makes it possible to make any shape of metal and items.
Kuwana is a producing area of imono, and it started with making guns. Tadakatsu Honda (one of the Four Generals Serving Tokugawa Ieyasu) made an order of producing guns with the domain's encouraged policy.
The quality of process has been passed down even today, so you can find a lot of imono technique in town such as rice cooker and manhole.
Kuwana city promoted its Kuwana imono at Milan International Exhibition to show Japanese culture to the world.
